Montage

Hello Everyone!

It's that time of the year when we can afford to be more audacious with our outfits and style- more mix and match whether it’s with colours, textures or layers. My favourites tend to change slightly from year to year. I’m drawn towards midi skirts this year – a particular piece of clothing that I always avoided while I was growing up, but have grown to love over the last few months. I always felt like they suspend at an unflattering point and let’s just say I don’t have the longest legs to pull them off. Although, I have always admired it on lots of other people.

I was feeling a little artsy and felt like doing something different for today’s post. I worked with a different kind of style. More experimental I would say. I created these images, inspired by Hannah Hoch’s* photo montaging. A technique I learnt and experimented with when I was in London studying Fashion Design. Ohhh.. how much I miss college days. Sigh! I was always fascinated with the idea of montaging or disintegrating pictures to highlight certain elements and look at it from a different perspective altogether. Dissecting and manipulating images was an attempt to give visual expression to the subconscious mind. I used it to challenge the perceptions of reality, to amuse and to disturb. Floral vintage midi skirt with sporty shoes and ethnic jewellery was put together to give a disintegrated look. I blended three different elements together to further dismantle them. I quite liked working on this concept as I like experimenting with photographs and giving them a different meaning altogether.
