A little Pause in Suffolk with ÖÖD Hotels - UK Travel Series

There’s a quiet kind of magic in doing very little.

It started with a soft morning sky and the sound of nothing but the breeze through the trees. The kind of quiet that makes you breathe a little deeper. I didn’t realise how much I needed to pause until I was already there, tucked away in the mirrored cabin. And that’s exactly what I did on a recent escape to the Suffolk countryside, where I spent a few slow days tucked away at ÖÖD Hotels, a mirrored cabin hidden in nature, designed for rest, reflection, and the simplest kind of joy.

It started with a soft morning sky and the sound of nothing but the breeze through the trees. The kind of quiet that makes you breathe a little deeper. I didn’t realise how much I needed to pause until I was already there, tucked away in the mirrored cabin.

I woke up early, wore my yoga pants and rolled out my mat for a little yoga session. Nothing intense, just some gentle stretches with the soft sun rays and cool breeze.

Breakfast became a kind of ritual. We cooked eggs and warmed up slices of soft, homemade bread that the host had baked fresh. There were little pots of jam (the kind that tastes like it was made with real fruit and time), a steaming cup of coffee and a sun that rose slowly over the field in front of us. We sat for what felt like forever; no rush, no plan, just the joy of being.

We ran through the meadow like we were kids again. I let my dress catch the breeze, shoes barely staying on, just laughing and moving. It was the most free I’ve felt in ages. There’s something about wide-open space that reminds you of who you were before life got noisy.

We even wandered past a few sweet farm animals on the land; gentle eyes, soft sounds. It was lovely just to watch them go about their day without a care.

I slipped into the hot tub with a glass of champagne, the air cool against warm water, the sky putting on a quiet show. I stayed until my fingers wrinkled and the light finally faded.

As night fell, the mirror house lit up softly from the inside like a little lantern in the middle of nowhere. We poured a glass of something bubbly and sat outside, wrapped in layers, watching the stars creep in overhead. This stay didn’t need big plans or fancy dinners. It gave us something rarer: space to breathe. The chance to reset. To cook simply, to move slowly, to wake up with nature and fall asleep without distraction.

Booking & Getting There

ÖÖD Hotels Suffolk is an easy couple of hours from London by car or you can take a train and hop in a cab from Southwold. You can book your stay at oodhotels.com. It’s perfect for solo escapes, quiet couple’s retreats or even just a 24-hour reset.

Explore Southwold

We took a little drive to Southwold; just under 30 minutes away and it was so worth it. That classic British seaside charm: pastel beach huts, the smell of salt and chips in the air and rows of little independent shops you could get lost in.

A few lovely spots if you’re heading that way:

  • The Southwold Pier – nostalgic and sweet, with retro arcades and sea views.

  • Adnams Brewery – for a little local tasting and a tour if you’re into craft beer.

  • Sutherland House – a beautiful old house turned into a restaurant, perfect for a slow lunch.

  • Two Magpies Bakery – ideal for a pastry and coffee stop (don’t skip the cinnamon buns).

  • The Harbour Inn – for fresh fish and chips with views over the water, super casual and cosy.

It’s the perfect place to spend a few hours wandering, snacking and breathing in that salty breeze before heading back.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to log off, leave the city and just exist for a little while then this is it. ÖÖD Mirror houses is a quiet little corner of the world and I promise: you’ll leave feeling lighter.

Love,

Sneha
